Last year I had a chance to sit in on the Belton City council meeting that was attended by many friends and family of the late Jace Jefferson.

The council remarked how they looked out and saw lots of new faces in the crowd attending that afternoon. It just shows how many people were pulling for the renaming of a Belton baseball complex for a 12-year-old boy who had played ball there for some 8 seasons of his childhood.

NEWS 10 shared the photo yesterday of the new welcome sign at the Jace Jefferson baseball complex, a journey that started in the city council meeting in the video below.

Jace Jefferson was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2015 and was gone just months later. Jace's mother Meloney was on hand and said, "It's sad but it makes me proud that people want to honor Jace. Knowing that his legacy and memory is going to live on makes me happy. That's my whole goal; I live for him every day so I would like everybody else to keep his memory alive."

The first pitch at the Jace Jefferson Baseball complex was thrown out by Jace's sister Mecca. She shared the moment with Jace's former teammates and members of the Belton community.

Jace's tombstone displays the words of baseball legend Jackie Robinson and reads, "A life is not important except in the impact it has on other lives."
