Texas Education Agency Published Its 2020 Guidelines
The Texas Education Agency (TEA) has released its recommendations and guidelines for the upcoming 2020 school year, and I'm still not sure how this is going to work.
The good news is that there will be options available to parents and students for the upcoming school year.
Our news partners at KWTX quote Texas Education Commissioner Mike Morath, who said, “The guidance will provide flexibility both to parents and districts to make decisions based on the ever-changing conditions of this public health crisis. The state is and remains committed to providing a high-quality education to all Texas students, while ensuring the health and safety of students, teachers, staff and families.”
The two options are on-campus instruction or remote learning.
On-campus learning would involve each student, teacher, staff and visitor to be screened before being allowed on campus, and everyone would have to wear a face mask or face covering. On-campus learning would help the working parent who can't afford daycare.
Here's the official release from TEA.
Keep in mind that parents can also choose the remote learning option. Parents would have to commit to it for a full grading period. There are options for transitioning from remote to in-person learning as well.
Forcing kids to wear a face covering will be very challenging, and judging by how the school year ended for the 2019-2020 season, virtual learning also has its challenges.
Did TEA get it right? Sound off in the comments.
