New Braunfuls Wurstfest Cancelled Due to COVID-19

Another festival bites the dust because of COVID-19.  The annual Wurstfest Association has cancelled this years event due to health and safety concerns.

KAST News reports, the festival has been going for 60 years straight, and this is the first time it's had to be cancelled.

A statement posted to the official Wurstfest website reads, " When we looked at how festival operations would have to change to prioritize safety, plus the related operational restrictions, we just didn’t feel we would be able to provide the Wurstfest experience we are known for.”

The Wurstfest Association of New Braunfels has a list of non-profit organizations on its website that benefit from the festival. Plans are being put in place to help support those organizations.

The Texas State Fair along with many other festivals this summer have had to postpone their events until next year because of the coronavirus.

Wurstfest, a 10 day event which consists of entertainment, food, and special events for the whole family, typically raises funds for organizations like the St. Jude's Ranch for Children, the New Braunfels Conservation Society, and the Comal County Senior Citizen’s Center.

Many non-profits are suffering due to COVID-19 cancellations around Central Texas.  Hopefully communities can find another way to help them get by until next year's events get going again. Fingers crossed that happens.
