Today is National Popcorn Day. Popcorn. It's the reason people go to movies. It's also how movie theaters make money. But it wouldn't be as big as it is if it wasn't for the Great Depression.

When nobody had any money, popcorn was only 5 to 10 cents a bag. So, it actually became a good way to make money. Farmers would grow corn, so then people would get jobs working on farms that grow corn.

Then in WW2 sugar rations diminished candy productions, and people compensated by devouring popcorn 3 times as much as they'd done before.
