Midway High School in Hewitt, Texas is reporting more cases of COVID-19 among students and staff.

FOX44 News is reporting that seven students and one staff member have tested positive for coronavirus.

A press release to parents and staff from Midway High School principle, Alison Smith, said a 9th grader tested positive as did a staff member. Smith said that parents have been contacted of any students that were in close contact to the student that tested positive.

The Texas Education Agency defines close contact as,

  1. Being directly exposed to infectious secretions (e.g., being coughed on); or
  2. Being within 6 feet for a largely uninterrupted or sustained extended contact period throughout the course of a day of approximately 15 minutes.

According to the MISD COVID-19 Active Case Dashboard, there are 13 active cases of COVID-19. 11 students and 2 staff members.

It's important for parents to screen their kids for any symptoms before sending them to school each day. If any symptoms do appear, parents should keep their kids home and a doctor should be contacted.
