A student who attends Killeen's Ellison High School is starting her own candle business.

KWTX reports that Makyah Prince has been creative since she was 5 as she used to make bracelets and key chains.

Now she makes candles that look and smell like dessert drinks.

Having fun and looking to earn a business degree in college, Prince is making the candles as a coping skill to make money but also to keep herself busy.

Her father says she gets her ambitious spirit from her mother and couldn't be more proud of his 17-year-old daughter who started making candles for people in the neighborhood.

Now she's started an Instagram page to highlight her products.

It's easy to look as today's kids as being lazy or entitled, but many are out there taking charge of their future and trying to become entrepreneurs. That's certainly the case with Makyah.

If you are interested in any of Makyah's candles, call 254-258-3051. It's a chance to buy local and support a Killeen student's future enterprise.
