Boobs in the News – FDA Issues Implant Recall
I tend to notice all stories boob related since I had my “girls” altered years ago. The one that caught my eye today is about a particular type of implant being recalled.
Breast implant maker Allergan Inc. produces various types of implants, one of which is a textured model. This type is being recalled due to a possible link to a rare form of cancer.
The U.S. Food and Drug Administration reports a voluntary recall of Allergan’s Biocell breast implants, saying they account for a disproportionate share of rare lymphoma cases.
This type of implant is not widely used. Only 5% of people in the US have them. My surgeon refused to use them 15 years ago when I had my procedure. The idea behind the implant is that the textured surface will reduce scar tissue, but massaging the implant will do the same thing so they really aren’t needed.
I know there are tons of jokes to follow that last sentence so let’s end this here.
