Police in Robinson were able to save a man's life Saturday after he turned a gun on himself.

Officers responded to a request to check on the welfare of a man living in the 100 block of West Tinsley Road around 4 PM Saturday, November 27.

Our news partner, KWTX, reports that officers were communicating with the man when he produced a handgun and pointed it at himself.

Officers backed away and spent about an hour negotiating with the man. Thankfully, their efforts were successful and the man surrendered peacefully. He was taken to a local hospital for evaluation.

As we approach the holiday season, it's important to keep in mind friends, relatives, and neighbors who may be dealing with depression or self-harm. Seasonal affective disorder can increase their symptoms, so if you're worried about them, check in on them or contact local authorities to visit and make sure they're ok.

If you or someone you know is struggling with thoughts of self-harm or suicide, please contact the National Suicide Prevention Lifeline at 1-800-273-8255 or chat with them online at suicidepreventionlifeline.org/chat/.
