I am writing this from the edge of internet capability. It could leave me at any second, here on this sunny, then hellaciously rainy, now sunny early evening. So we'll make this a quickie, ladies and gentleman. Our song is about a search, a frantic need to find...a little green back. Or bag. Whatever. Just the kind. To ease my my mind.

Quentin Tarantino has the magic touch, especially when it comes to music. For his soundtracks, he pulls an obscure one hit or sometimes no hit wonder seemingly out of the ether, and working in conjunction with his unique cinematic voice, brands the song into the public pop sub-strata so thoroughly it's hard to believe there was a time when said song was indeed obscure.  As it was with today's tune, chosen by the director to open up his film Reservoir Dogs, underpinning the opening slow mo image of his rouges gallery of Color Named ruffians, exiting a diner, in matching suits.

And boom, this little obscure tune by a Dutch band named The George Baker Selection, which has always sounded like a really awful wedding reception cover band, came and went with this snappy, impossibly funky backseat, entered the moviegoer's permanent consciousness. It helps that the song is a conglomeration of all things early seventies cool. Interestingly, originally it was called "Little Greenback", after the dollar, but something went wacky in the translation and the wrong name "Little Green Bag" stuck. So, no, the song is not about pot.

Okay, enough typing, let's make this your K-101.7 SONG OF THE DAY, shall we?

And then maybe we'll all go rob a jewelry store or something, you know, for kicks.

And while you are down here, and before my internet goes out again, let me drop this here for you to enjoy, this thing we did, that you should watch, cos you love Dave In The Cave. Yes, you do.
