We all need some sort of distraction from the current world we live in, and thankfully sports has been that getaway. But even still, the current pandemic and the impacts it's had on our way of life sometimes forces us back into reality, and we all have no choice but to accept it and deal with it.

As the high school sports season is just getting fired up, expect to see this happen with more regularity. The Killeen ISD has announced that tonight and tomorrow night's Junior Varsity and Varsity football matchups between the Killeen High Kangaroos and the Waco High Lions have been canceled.

The Junior Varsity game was supposed to kickoff tonight (Oct. 8) at Leo Buckley Stadium in Killeen, while the Varsity matchup was supposed to take place Friday night at Waco ISD Stadium.

No specific reason was given for the cancellation, nor has a potential makeup date for the game has been scheduled. Sorry kids...and parents.

This is the only Central Texas football game we've seen any sort of cancellation notice for so far, but we'll let you know if anything else comes across the news desk. While we don't know why these games were cancelled, we do want to remind everyone that you can help keep Friday night lights going by respecting the health and safety rules in place at local stadiums on game night. That means wearing your mask, giving people their space, and just being courteous in general.

By the way, you can catch Belton Tiger Football on the airwaves Friday night on KRock1017. That's 101.7 on your FM dial, or streaming live at krock1017fm.com, on the free KRock1017 app, or using the free Krock1017 Alexa skill.
