Police in Harris County say a man has turned himself in and reportedly confessed to firing at a family's car on the 4th of July, igniting fireworks in their vehicle and causing two children and their father severe burns.

Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzales reported on Twitter that 18-year-old Bayron J. Rivera surrendered to detectives Sunday. He faces four counts of aggravated assault.

According to Harris County officials, the incident began as road rage that resulted in Rivera and the adult victim confronting each other in a convenience store parking lot. Surveillance footage shows fireworks going off inside the victim's vehicle after driving away. Police say the family had just purchased the fireworks, and a shot fired by Rivera sparked them. A father of two and his children, ages 1 and 3, received severe burns and were pulled from their vehicle by witnesses.
