H-E-B to Issue Largest Pay Raise in Company’s History

H-E-B did a better job than most governments when it came to being prepared for an emergency, so when COVID-19 began to spread across Texas and supplies were tough to come by, they did a commendable job of keeping Texans fed and stocked with essentials. They've also done a fantastic job looking out for employees and customers, and now H-E-B partners have more good news to look forward to.

The Texas grocery giant announced Monday that it will transition its Texas Proud Pay Program, which ended Sunday, into a long-term, permanent pay increase. The program was originally a temporary system of bonus pay as employees continued to work during the COVID-19 pandemic. Now, the company says, there will be accelerated and enhanced pay increases for hourly employees in stores and in supply chain positions.

In addition to the pay increase, the company says it's also extending medical leave, and that employees diagnosed with COVID-19 will still receive pay as they rest at home and recuperate.

I don't even work at H-E-B and I'm happy about this. The company's done so much for Texas over the years, and I've always found the employees there to be helpful and hard working. Factor in all the chaos they've had to deal with during this pandemic, and it just seems natural that they get some extra compensation.

I wouldn't want to have to deal with customers angry about mask requirements and supply shortages on a daily basis, but H-E-B employees handle it with grace. I couldn't do it!
