Sylvester Stallone Hints That ‘Creed 2’ Will Begin Filming in 2018
Despite the fact that Creed 2 remains very early in the pre-production process, Sylvester Stallone hasn’t shied away from providing fans with regular updates on his screenwriting process. That’s included photos of his handwritten Creed 2 script as well as a promise that his character would face off against Dolph Lundgren’s Ivan Drago in the much-anticipated sequel. And while star and studio have avoided giving us a firm timeline for the sequel’s release — I mean, other than a rumored 2017 release date that they, uh, are clearly going to miss — it sounds like Stallone is making a lot of progress on he film.
On Friday, Stallone posted a photo from 2015’s Creed that seemingly included a promise that the film would begin production sometime in 2018. Variety, who reached out to MGM for confirmation, was able to confirm that the project remains in development, though no additional information was provided. For now it seems our best source of information for the Creed sequel will be Stallone’s social media accounts, which means we’ll all pretty much know what’s going on as soon as he feels like sharing.
With so many hurdles left to jump before the film goes into production, there’s still a lot we don’t know about Creed 2. That will likely change — at least a little — as Marvel ramps up its publicity for Black Panther and Michael B. Jordan and Ryan Coogler get hit with a barrage of press questions about upcoming projects. Needless to say, the bar has been set pretty high here; Jordan and Coogler helped make Creed 2 one of the surprise critical and commercial successes of 2015, and fans would love to see Jordan continue to cement his position as one of the most bankable movie stars in Hollywood. Until then, we’ll keep piecing together all the little breadcrumbs that Stallone drops via his social media platforms and hope that he lets something huge slide in the weeks to come.
