Cold Weather Care Kits are Needed in Temple

As temps fall, the need to stay warm rises. The City of Temple’s Housing & Community Development Department is asking for donations to help supply cold weather kits to those in need.

One of my favorite reason for living in Central Texas is the warm weather. I spent 33 years living in Colorado Springs, Colorado here it starts to get cold in October and stays that way 'til June. Since moving to Texas in July of 2017, I haven't had to navigate snow or shovel it or ice off my driveway or windshield. I love it here!

Now, that's not to say it doesn't get cold here, because it does, and the need for cold weather supplies exists for those not able to afford those supplies on their own. This is where you and I come in. According to a press release from The City of Temple, donations for "Cold Weather Care Kits" are needed.

The City of Temple’s Housing & Community Development Department and the Temple Public Library are putting together Cold Weather Care Kits for those in need.

Nancy Glover, director of Housing & Community Development, says,

“We’re asking our community to come together to help provide these essential items for members of our community. These kits will provide some much-needed warmth this winter.”

Donations items that are needed are:
• Socks
• Scarves
• Hats
• Hand warmers
• Lotion
• Blankets
• Lip Balm
• Gloves

Donations are being accepted through Feb. 23. Any items you can gift to this cause need to be new items with the tags attached.

Donations are being accepted at the City of Temple Public Library, 100 W. Adams Ave., during Curbside Service hours, Tuesday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. They ask that you park in one of the dedicated curbside pickup parking spots and call 254-298-5556 once you arrive. Someone will come accept the items you've generously donated.

The Cold Weather Care Kits will be distributed each Thursday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul, 106 W. Ave. D, while supplies are available. We can all help make sure plenty of supplies are available for those in need here in Central Texas.
