Celebrities, NFL Urge Texas Leaders to Reject Bathroom Law
When America's biggest music stars and its largest sporting organization speak out against a potential law, people notice.
Around 150 entertainers signed a letter urging Texas legislators to reject Senate Bill 6, which would restrict a person's use of a public restroom to the gender on their birth certificate. Among the signatories are Sting, Lady Gaga, Cyndi Lauper, Britney Spears, Star Trek's George Takei, Jimmy Kimmel, Jennifer Lawrence and more.
Organizers of the letter call it "a denial of basic human dignity."
A few weeks ago the Fort Worth Convention and Visitors Bureau launched an initiative of their own entitled Texas Welcomes All in which they partnered with other convention and visitors bureau's in the state to oppose legislation of this sort.
One of the major proponents of the legislation is lieutenant governor Dan Patrick. Some major companies, including the NFL have warned against enacting the legislation.
