Ya see, back in the mid 1980's, there was thing called hair metal, where dudes would play wheedle wheedle whee on their flying V guitars, much spandex and pleather was worn and hair was sprayed up to crazy level. However, not everybody could sell like the Motely Crues or The Twisted Sisters. Something had to appeal to the average suburban female teen record buyer. Metal had to be cute and smiley, like your Bon Jovi's, or hunky and souful-eyed like this band here, this "Europe."

In 1986 these guys sashayed out of Sweden, their hair just magnificent. In 25 countries, the song in question hit number one. In the U.S., a measly number eight. Funnily enough, members of the band, upon hearing the doodly doo of the keyboard intro, scoffed at a 'rock" band doing something do...twinkly. Who were they, The Chariots Of Fire guy? C'mon! They didn't even want to release the song as a single. The record company insisted, and thus was born the gigantic success we all know and love today.  Says songwriter/keyboardist/master of the flat iron Joey Tempest, Nowadays, we don’t rehearse it but when we play it live, it is still just so amazing! It does communicate so well with the audience and we really love playing it.
