Driving down I-14 during rush hour recently got me thinking: when will this be complete? Usually I find that's just a passing thought, only to resurface the next time I find myself driving that same route, but this time it stuck. Looks like they have a ways to go.

According to the Killeen Daily Herald, phase 3 began midway through October. Once complete, there'll be three lanes in both directions connecting Belton to Copperas Cove.

So as of now, phase 2 and 3 are both underway with phase 2 expected to be done in late 2021 and phase 3 scheduled to complete in 2023.

According to TxDOT spokesperson Jake Smith, “Based on the most recent schedule, phase 2 is projected to be completed in late 2021, weather permitting. The entire project itself is still on schedule to complete in 2023, weather permitting.”

So what's left to be done? According to the article, phase 2 will still need final paving, striping, widening, plus construction of new on and off ramps.

Phase 3 still has ways to go but again, it's expected to be completed in 2023, weather permitting.

Of course with all road construction, make sure to slow it down a bit. Construction fines are always more than regular road fines and since we seem to be hitting the rainy season, road conditions can also be more dangerous. Proceed with caution.
