Waco City Council Purchases New Land for Landfill
News 10 is reporting that Tuesday Night at the Waco City Council meeting members voted unanimously to purchase a plot of land for the new Waco landfill.
The city paid $396,550 for the land in hopes to calm growing concerns from Axtell residents.
"We continue to hear concerns from the people in Axtell and we're trying to address those and we know that they are also reaching out to the TCEQ expressing their concerns for that."
Local residents expressed concerns over the new landfill's noise and smell. The newly purchased 20.01-acre land will help keep the noise and smell away from residents.
KWTX said. "This additional property adds to the nearly 1300 acres the city recently bought in the area. So far, the council has authorized nearly five million dollars for land at the proposed site."
The mayor said that there are no future plans to purchase any additional land for the landfill.
