The reason two children lost their father has now become a little clearer.

University of Mary Hardin-Baylor student Bailey Carlson, 23, was arrested Thursday afternoon just hours after the Kayn Kemp's funeral. She’s charged with failure to stop and render aid resulting in death.

KWTX is reporting that the arrest warrant affidavit released Friday states that Carlson was trying to plug in her cell phone when her pickup allegedly struck and killed Mr. Kemp.

Kemp was walking to work when he was struck. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The arrest affidavit also said that she was distracted when she entered McGregor while she tried to plug in her cell phone. "Carlson stated she struck what she thought was a mailbox, however, did not stop to investigate. Carlson stated that after she saw the news about the fatality, she realized she had struck Kayn Kemp." She was set to turn herself in but was picked up by the police instead.
