Nothing says family quite like a parade.

Whenever I hear about a parade, I always remember my Grandfather. Grandpa Mogard always loved parades.

He would stay inside the bar until just before the parade would start. As a grandson, it was my job to come and get him when the floats would start to pass by.

"Floats coming, Grandpa!"

"Praise Jesus! Let's get this show on the road. Nurse! Keep my seat warm."

He then send me out to run in front of the vehicles to make sure they saw me so they'd throw candy my way.

When the parade was over, he'd let me drive home (which was cool for any 12 year-old) and he'd go through my candy collection, picking out the ones that were bad for me.

I'm sure it'll be the same for many kids and their grandparents on Saturday, May 25th, at the Harker Heights Memorial Parade & Ceremony 2019.

The route will be from Wildewood to the Harker Heights City Hall on FM 2410/Knights way. The parade gets underway at 9:00 a.m.

The Ceremony will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the Veterans Monument, 305 Miller's Crossing.

It's a great family event that will still get you home in time for Memorial 500 on the telly.
