Texas Cop Delivers Baby Announcement Instead of Traffic Ticket
Getting stopped by the police, then calling your wife an idiot may sound like the makings of a bad day, but for a Wylie man, it was the start of his greatest one so far.
Wayne Blackmore was stopped by police on Sunday. He thought he was going to get a ticket for not having a front license plate, and even told the officer he knew that was the case because his wife had insisted they remove it. (She reportedly said the front plate looked "dorky".)
But Wayne's wife, Michelle, recorded the entire scene, and while Wayne explained to the officer what a dork his wife was, the officer delivered a lecture on why it's important for men like Wayne to set a good example.
"Seeing as how I'm not writing you a ticket, maybe you can listen to me just a little bit," the officer told Wayne. "Rules are put in place for a reason, you agree with that? Irregardless of how dorky something might look or somebody might not think it's important, the State of Texas says it is, alright? And as a parent, we also have to make sure that we're good role models, correct? And seeing as how you're in that boat now, don't you think it's important that you do the same?"
That was when Wayne turned to his wife and she showed him a positive pregnancy test. Yes, it was all a set up, and Michelle recruited the Wylie Chief of Police to help her surprise the father of her child.
His reaction?
"You're an idiot!"
The joyous look on Wayne's face speaks volumes about how much he loves his wife, and the whole scene is made sweeter by the fact that the couple has faced a lot of hurdles while trying to conceive.
KTBC-TV reports that the couple recently returned from an expensive trip to the Czech Republic for a second round of in-vitro fertilization.
"For us, it was the best news we could get," Wayne said. "Finding out we're pregnant and not getting a ticket!"
