Tasty! Texas Lands Two Top 10 Towns in 2022’s Best BBQ Cities in America

When it comes to BBQ, Texas has some of the best to offer, and if you're looking for a top BBQ city in Texas, you've got a couple of prime choices.

It's no secret Texas is home to the BEST BBQ in the country. There is just something different about a Texans' commitment to the process of preparing mouth watering brisket and ribs. Whether we are smoking it, grilling it or slow cooking it, Texans just seem to do it best.

Lawnstarter has released the result of their "Best BBQ Cities in America" study and it's no surprise that Texas landed two cities in the top 10. If anything, it's more surprising we didn't have a few more. Let's take a look.

2022’s Best BBQ Cities in America

Lawnstarter looked at the top 200 cities in the U.S. and judged them on several criteria, including, award-winning barbecue restaurants, experience hosting a “master-level” competition, multiple barbecue festivals, high ratings, and about 14 other categories. Once the numbers are tallied, slow-cooked, dipped in sauce and platted u,p and served with an ice cold Lone Star, here's how it ended up.

In as the number one city in the U.S for BBQ was St Louis, MO. Kansas City placed second on the list with Chicago third and Springfield, MO fourth. Orlando, FL rounds out the top 5. (Kinda surprising that Orlando would beat out any city in Texas.)

Overland, KS and Kansas City, KS placed 6th and 7th before we get our first Texas city at 8th, Austin. No real surprise here, as Austin is the foodie capitol of Texas. Austin did finish #1 in the "Most BBQ Festivals" category, plus a strong finish in "Access to BBQ Spots" as well. Looking for good BBQ, you can't go wrong in Austin.

Separating Austin at #8 and Houston at #10, is Chattanooga, TN. Houston finished strong with the highest numbers of BBQ awards.

Texas Strong

Overall, Texas had a good showing, although pretty predictable with Austin and Houston finishing top 10. Other cities showing up with strong numbers were Lubbock at 21, Plano at 45, and San Antonio at 50. Dallas finished 75 out of 200.
