Careful: Rain Could Bring Flooding to Temple, Texas Area

Rain has finally started to fall here in Temple, Texas, and it is a sight for sore eyes. I think I speak for many of us when I say triple digit temperatures were beginning to become tiresome. However, with the rain showing up again, there is one thing we must be very aware of - flooding.

As shown here in this video, dry ground has a tough time of absorbing water. So there is the potential for flooding anywhere in the state because of the previously mentioned bone dry ground.

Today, August 22, 2022, A flood watch is in effect from 7 AM to 7 PM. According to Sean Bellafiore from KWTX:

"The most favored location for heavy rain will be near and east of I-35 but everyone has at least a 70% chance for rain. Gusty winds or even a brief spin-up tornado are possible with the strongest storms, but severe storms aren’t very likely today"

KWTX and Bellafiore also report that "We have near-record levels of moisture in the atmosphere (for today’s date in history) and that means that any storms that form will be exceedingly efficient at dropping a lot of rain in a short amount of time."

We've also seen flooding across Texas, as KHOU has reported flooding causing problems on roadways. FOX 4 also rescued a driver whose car was caught in the floods caused by the rain overnight.

The most important thing to remember when seeing flooded roads is to find another route. Turn around, don't drown.
