Temple Mayor Timothy A. Davis this week announced the winners of the inaugural Architectural Appreciation Photography Contest.

Back in February, the Temple Main Street Program asked the good people of Temple to submit photos of historic buildings around town. It was all part of the City's preparation to observe National Preservation Month in May.

Forty-six entries from amateurs and professionals were received, and a panel including the mayor, a professional photographer, and a member of the City staff judged the winning photos.

1st place went to Terry Rascoe for his photo of the historic Hawn Hotel and Arcadia Theater.

All forty-six entries will be part of a showcase on display at three area museums from now until October:

May & June - Czech Heritage Museum, 119 W. French Ave. in Temple

July & August - Bell County Museum, 201 N. Main St. in Belton

September & October - Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum, 315 W. Avenue B in Temple

Congrats to the winners, and a special thanks to everyone who submitted photos of beautiful historic buildings here in Temple.

In addition to judging the contest, Mayor Davis issued a proclamation Thursday, May 2nd naming May as Preservation Month in Temple. It's part of a nationwide effort to draw public attention to local cultural heritage and preserving historic buildings.

On Wednesday, May 29th from 5 PM to 8 PM, you're invited to participate in the 'Imagine the Possibilities Tour" - a self-guided tour which will be comprised of around a dozen open house receptions, each to be staged by downtown property owners who are either planning building restorations or who otherwise have buildings or shop space to sell or lease.
