The NFL world mourns another loss as a former Dallas Cowboy fan favorite was found dead in his apartment on Wednesday, June 1, 2022.

Marion Barber

Former Dallas Cowboys Pro Bowl Running Back, Marion Barber, was found dead on Wednesday in his apartment. According to the Fort Worth Star-Telegram, Frisco Police forced their way into Barbers apartment after someone had reported a water leak coming from his apartment.

Frisco Police spokesperson Joshua Lovell said,

“Frisco Police responded to a welfare concern at an apartment believed to be leased by Marion Barber, Frisco Police along with the Collin County Medical Examiner’s Office are investigating an unattended death at the location.”

Marion Barber was 38 years old and just a few days away from his 39th birthday.

Marion The Barbarian

Barber was drafted by the Dallas Cowboys in 2005 and would go on to make his only Pro Bowl appearance just three years later after rushing for 975 yards, a career best, during the regular season. He would play a total of six years with the Cowboys and one with the Chicago Bears. He retired after that year with the Bears.

The Cowboys also released a statement saying,

“We are heartbroken by the tragic death of Marion Barber III,” the statement reads. “Marion was an old-school, hard-nosed football player who ran with the will to win every down. He had a passion for the game and love for his coaches and teammates. Our hearts go out to Marion’s family and friends during this difficult time.”

Forever in our hearts. #MarionTheBarbarian

Fantasy football players know all to well the damage Marion the Barbarian can put on an opposing team. My team, The Crowz, lost a playoff spot after playing against a Barber led team. Dallas was playing in Detroit when Barber went off for 3 touchdowns and more than 100 yards.

I still hold Detroit responsible form ending my season early that year.

As a fan of football in general, RIP Marion Barber and thanks for making the game fun to watch.
