With Rogers currently without a police chief, deputies with the Bell County Sheriff's Department will be stepping up to respond to calls while the City seeks new officers.

Our partners at News 10 report that Rogers Police Chief Robert Wireman retired Thursday. The doors of the Rogers PD building were locked, but the force isn't disbanded. The Rogers City Council and Mayor Billy Crow will be searching for officers to restaff the department, and Bell County Sheriff Eddy Lange says the people of Rogers won't be left hanging in the meantime.

However, response times may be delayed

"The Bell County Sheriff's Department wants to assure all the citizens of Rogers that we're going to be there to answer any calls for service they may have," Lange said. "I hope they do realize that sometimes response time may not be what they're accustomed to."

The office's district officer will be on duty to help when called.

"Of course he's got a large area to cover and he may not be immediately available," he told News 10, "but our response times overall still aren't bad, so we're going to take care of the citizens of Rogers like the rest of the citizens of Bell County."

Rogers is a pretty quiet and peaceful place to live, but it's not immune to trouble. No matter where you live, it's a good idea to lock the doors of your vehicles and your home and to leave porch lights on at night.
