Governor Abbott has announced a temporary pause on the remaining phases of opening Texas.

According to a report from our news partners at KWTX, the recent spike of COVID-19 cases has led Governor Abbott to temporarily hold off on the remaining phases of the ongoing effort to reopen the Lone Star State.

“This temporary pause will help our state corral the spread until we can safely enter the next phase of opening our state for business,” Abbott said Thursday.

Cities and counties across the state are now placing mandatory orders for residents to wear a mask when entering a place of business. Here in Central Texas, cities like Waco, Hewitt, Woodway, Belton, and Temple are urging the public to take precautions and to remember that face coverings are not a replacement for social distancing.

Yesterday, Bell County Judge David Blackburn issued Directive #7, which mandates businesses require the use of face coverings on their premises with a sign prominently displayed, and strongly urges members of the public to use face coverings when in public places where social distancing is difficult. You can read the full directive using the PDF link at the bottom of this page.

Recently, East Coast governors announced that a mandatory quarantine would be placed on travelers from Texas and several other sates due to the recent surge in cases of COVID-19.

Are you concerned about the spike of COVID-19 cases? Do you think Governor Abbott attempted to open the state too quickly?
