Marlin's chief of police died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound Friday morning after Texas Rangers arrived at his home to serve warrants.

Our partners at News 10 report that rangers were speaking with Chief Nathan Sodek on the porch of his home on Soules Circle in Bruceville-Eddy when he ran inside, retrieved a weapon, and shot himself in the head.

According to News 10, a source close to the case said authorities were serving warrants stemming from a sexual assault investigation.

Sodek began serving as Marlin's police chief in December of 2018 after former Chief Mike Pesses resigned and had been with the department for about a year before his appointment to the post.
