If you find it hard to believe, the Killeen, Texas school year is almost set to begin. With the first day of school on August 15th, parents, teachers, and students are preparing for back-to-school. And with every new school year comes new questions on what the district is doing for the new year.

It was recently announced that safety upgrades were coming to the Killeen ISD. Because many questions have been raised at the news of these upgrades, Killeen ISD has decided to hold two meetings to answer any concerns parents have.

So when are they taking place and what are these meetings discussing?

In a press release, Killen ISD stated that three meetings will take place. The first one, on July 19th, will be discussing the budget and will take place at the KISD Administration Building.

The release describes the meeting as follows: "The public is invited to attend a 2023 Budget Planning meeting with the Board of Trustees and offer input for the upcoming year. Items to be discussed: KISD revenue and expenditures, tax rate, student projections, ESSER funding (Federal funding as a result of COVID), impact aid funding and future planning. Members of the public may sign up to speak during the special meeting. The Board of Trustees will adopt the final budget in August."

The second and third meeting will discuss the previously mentioned safety upgrades and will take place on July 25th and July 27th.

According to the release: "Killeen ISD is hosting two School Safety Community Forums as we prepare to start school for the 22-23 school year. Our KISD Police Chief and School Safety Director will provide an overview of ongoing practices related to school safety, as well as new items the district is implementing as a result of the tragedy in Uvalde. There will also be a Q&A session available at the end of these meetings."

The second meeting will take place at Shoemaker High School Auditorium in Killeen while the third takes place at Eastern Hills Middle School Cafeteria in Harker Heights.

All meetings will begin at 6 PM.

Top 20 Restaurants Central Texans Wish Would Come to Temple

A while back, I asked the good people of Temple if they could picture a good restaurant to fill the lot on North General Bruce Drive where the soon to be torn down Long John Silver's stood.

This was before it was announced that a Dutch Bros. Coffee location would open there (which was one of the places I predicted as a contender in our article).

So now Dutch Bros. is open in that spot, but the responses to my survey were interesting because they paint a picture of just how diverse Temple's population is. People recommended some familiar restaurants with locations in the surrounding area, but also a few I'd never even heard of.

Here are the top 20 results of the survey. Let's see what the good people of Temple are craving!
