Killeen police are investigating after a driver reportedly fired a gun at another motorist in the city Friday afternoon.

Erick Franklin with our partners at News 10 reports that the shooting was reported shortly after 3:15 PM Friday. The person who called 9-1-1 told a dispatcher that the driver of a white vehicle fired a shot at the vehicle the victim was riding in at the intersection of Florence Road and Elms Road.

The caller reported that the victim was being taken to Seton Medical Center in Harker Heights. The victim was later transferred to Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Temple with what police described as non-life-threatening injuries.

Police did not release further details.

If you know anything that might help investigators determine who the shooter was, please contact the Killeen Police Department at (254) 501-8830.

You can also reach out to Bell County Crime Stoppers at (254) 526-8477, bellcountycrimestoppers.com, or via the free P3Tips app for iOS and Android. You do not have to give Crime Stoppers your name, and information leading to an arrest could net you a cash reward of up to $1,000.

As mentioned above, police didn't release many details, so I don't know what the motive here was. However, I always worry about road rage leading to something like this. KHOU-TV recently reported that a man was shot in the face during a road rage incident, and KTRK-TV shared video of a man firing at two women in Houston during what appears to have been yet another road rage incident.

All I can say is that someone is driving like a moron, remember to drive defensively and think about finding a way to distance yourself from them and just let them go on their merry way. Trust me, I understand the urge to brake check people riding your rear or to flip off someone who cuts you off, but people out there are packing and anything could set them off. Better to make it home alive with your pride a little wounded than end up in the hospital or worse.
