Six Flags in Arlington had hoped the opening night for their new roller coaster would go a little smoother than it actually did.

Our news partners at KWTX report that 8 riders had to be rescued late Saturday night from high above the theme park after something triggered the safety controls for the new ride, stopping it high above the crowds who looked on.

KWTX reports the last passenger was safely taken off the ride just before dawn on Sunday thanks to the help of local fire fighters and ladder trucks. Personally, I don't know that I could ever "climb down" from atop a coaster on a ladder.

The park was open late for Senior Night. Area High School students got a little more than they bargained for when the ride got stuck. Leave it to the Joker.
