National French Fry Day 2026: Where to Get Free Fries Today

Happy FRYday! And this year, National French Fry Day actually falls on a Friday! Coincidence?! I THINK NOT!!

Whether you love them crispy, curly, waffle-cut, crinkle-cut, or loaded with cheese, today is all about celebrating one of America's favorite comfort foods: French fries.

According to National Today, "The term 'French fries' refers to deep-fried slices or strips of potatoes. While the precise origins are unknown, the item hit the culinary scene sometime in the 1700s. It had taken an entire century for potatoes to become widely accepted as food, arriving in Europe in the 1600s."

To celebrate, several popular restaurant chains are offering free fries and special National French Fry Day deals. Many of the offers require customers to use the restaurant's mobile app or rewards program, LAME, but hey free is free so I’ll take it!

McDonald's

• Free medium fries with a $1 minimum purchase through the McDonald's app for Rewards members.

Whataburger

• Free medium fries when you order through the Whataburger app. No purchase is required for this offer.

Burger King

• Royal Perks members can score a free order of fries (any size) with a purchase of $1 or more.

Wendy's

• Get a free order of fries of any size with a $5 purchase when ordering through the Wendy's app.

Jack in the Box

• Rewards members can receive free fries of any size with a $1 purchase.

Carl's Jr.

• Enjoy a free large order of fries or waffle fries with a purchase of at least $1 at participating locations.

Popeyes

• Rewards members can get free Cajun Fries with a $5 purchase through the app or website.

Chick-fil-A

• Chick-fil-A One members can earn free medium waffle fries by playing the "Spot the Cows" game in the app through July 13 as part of Cow Appreciation Week.
