Texas Travelers Now Entitled To Refunds For Airline Screw Ups

New rules in 2024 will help Texas travelers, and all others across the country, be compensated for airline cancellations and other issues that affect travel.

The new rules include provisions to give peeps a better view of what they're paying for and to speed up refunds if something about the flight goes south like excessive delays or cancellations.

In the past, airlines kind of did whatever they wanted and we had to deal with it. That's not necessarily the case anymore.

One of the biggest, and, to me, most important changes in the way airlines have to do business now involves refunds. Getting 'em is now super easy as airlines have to offer them. No more settling for credits or miles ... unless that's what you really want.

Instead of first offering a voucher or credit, airlines “must automatically issue refunds without passengers having to explicitly request them or jump through hoops,” the Transportation Department says. The refunds need to be issued within seven business days for credit card purchases and 20 calendar days when bought through other methods. - washingtonpost.com

In the event a flight is "seriously disrupted" ... delayed by more than 3 hours domestically or 6 hours internationally ... cash refunds are mandatory.

Other changes considered significant: the departure or arrival is from a different airport; there are more connections; passengers are downgraded to a lower class; or service or flights are on planes that are less accessible for a person with a disability. washingtonpost.com
