It is back to school time for Central Texas with Killeen Independent School District beginning classes on Monday the 14th, Belton the 16th and Temple right on their heels for the following Monday the 21st. The huge checklist of items that need to be crossed off, speaking as a father of three, can become a bit overwhelming.

The wonderful team at Monai Beauty Co have once again organized for the fourth year in a row a back to school event that will provide free braids to as many children in the community as they can get to this weekend. Thanks to their efforts and workers employed at other salons, a crew of about 30 stylists will be braiding hair beginning in the morning this Sunday with a goal of blessing at least 100 heads, or more if time allows.

There is not a registration process to participate in the free program. You are asked to arrive at the Killeen Mall early, and the first 100 in line will receive a ticket beginning at 9 AM.

After the first 100, if you did not receive a number, you are welcome to stay and be added to their wait list. However, there is no guarantee that you will be able to receive the complimentary service as the braiding will only go until 4 PM.

This really is a great program for our community, and all who volunteer for this and any other service should be well congratulated. You remind us constantly why we are so fortunate to live in Central Texas.

You can read more on the event in this KCEN article.
