OPEN LETTER: Why Is Killeen The Perfect Place To Live In The State Of Texas?

I don’t know why people try to paint this picture that the city of Killeen, Texas is a terrible place to live. Being a native of the city of Killeen, I’ve heard all the insults I can bear. "Killeen is too urban, dangerous, and a place without any opportunity", and quite frankly, I’m over it. Let me start by saying if I had to choose anywhere to live in Central Texas, I’m always going to pick the city of Killeen. I’ve lived here, most of my life, and the city has always been family-oriented, safe for me and my family and home.

WELCOME TO THE CITY OF KILLEEN

What I find really interesting is even when individuals try to paint this narrative about my city it’s usually someone who’s not from here. If I’m being honest, a lot of issues that happen in the city of Killeen are from people who are not natives of the city of Killeen. Please keep in mind that Fort Cavazos which is the third largest base in the United States of America is literally next door to the city of Killeen which means we have a melting pot of diverse individuals in our city who are not really from here. Now to the untrained eye, I might sound like I’m trying to make an excuse for the city but the reality is there are problems everywhere around the world not just in the city of Killeen and I’m tired of people being so disrespectful about my city.

IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT, DON'T COME!

The city of Killeen birthed plenty of successful individuals like NFL star, Tommy Harris, international sensation, and radio personality, Dede McGuire, and the beautiful and angelic hometown hero Rose Short, and that is just to name a few. The next time you hear an individual say something negative about the city of Killeen just explain to them that you "don’t have to live here and we won't miss you when you leave!" Killeen natives love and are truly proud of our city and will always support it.
