Houston, Texas was under attack by Mother Nature this past week! One confirmed tornado, windows blown out of high rise building in Downtown. Some of the scenes coming out of Houston looked apocalyptic!  Videos continue to surface on social media. This one was posted to the Accuweather Facebook page.

This just came across my feed and shows a house under construction that falls to the ground! It is unclear how strong the winds were blowing in the video The way the house falls looks almost choreographed. For many, this brings into question the quality of the construction. The most important thing is that no one was injured!   Many in the Houston area are still without power.

 TEXAS HEAT IS GETTING BRUTAL:

Temperatures in South Texas are heating up! Daytime highs in South Texas are now steadily in the mid-90s. However, the index is another thing. Two things that determine the heat index using the chart above, you need to know the air temperature and the relative humidity. This week, the South Texas Weather update page posted the below warning.

Here are some safety tips from the American Red Cross:

You need to drink enough water to prevent heat illness. An average person needs to drink about 3/4 of a gallon of water daily. Everyone’s needs may vary.

  • You can check that you are getting enough water by noting your urine color. Dark yellow may indicate you are not drinking enough.
  • Avoid sugary, caffeinated, and alcoholic drinks.
  • If you are sweating a lot, combine water with snacks or a sports drink to replace the salt and minerals you lose in sweat.
  • Talk to your doctor about how to prepare if you have a medical condition or are taking medicines.
