East Texas Teams Make Moves in First Basketball Rankings of 2024
The Texas Association of Basketball Coaches has released its first high school basketball rankings for the new year. That means we have a new list of the top 25 boys' and girls' teams from Conference A through Conference 6A.
Even though Texas schools have been out for Christmas, area teams have not taken a break. Many basketball teams have been taking part in holiday-themed basketball tournaments.
Let's start with the boy's rankings
No boys' teams from Deep East Texas made the top 25 rankings in the Class 4A through 6A levels, so let's start with Conference 3A.
The Crockett Bulldogs have been on quite a roll. They won all their games in December on their way to an overall record of 19-3. The Bulldogs have moved up to #12 in the Class 3A rankings.
In Conference 2A, the Timpson Bears (2-3), fresh off a football state championship, are ranked fifth in the state. Other area teams in the top 25 include Dallardsville Big Sandy (11-8) ranked number 17, and Grapeland (13-9) ranked number 20.
The Brookeland Wildcats (13-7) continue to move up in the Class A standings. Brookeland is in the top ten ranked at #7. Meanwhile, the Martinsville Pirates (11-5) are number 19 in the state.
Girl's Rankings
District foes Huntington (20-5) and Pineywoods Community Academy (17-3) are ranked 22nd and 23rd respectively in the Class 3A poll.
In Conference 2A, the Tenaha Lady Tigers (20-5) are ranked as the 2nd best team in the state. Given their tough schedule and great results, Tenaha could very well be the best girl's basketball team in the Pineywoods.
Also in Class 2A, Douglass (13-5) is ranked 17th while Dallardsville Big Sandy (13-5) is number 24 in the state.
