Remember the argument about how the flu kills so many people each year and yada yada yada? Well, flu season is approaching and now's the time to get that flu shot.

So now that we've seen the flattening of the curve, so to speak, of the spread of COVID-19, we are not out of the woods yet here in Central Texas as now we have the flu to worry about.

Dr. Van Wehmeyer with Baylor Scott & White Hillcrest Medical Center Family Medicine tells Drake Lawson at KWTX

“Every year we have a problem with capacity at the hospital because of the flu, it could be a really big nightmare.”

Hospital capacity is a real concern. That's why the stay at home order happened when the COVID-19 pandemic hit earlier this year. It was a attempt to keep hospitals from getting overcrowded. Flu season this year presents its own problems, as according to Dr. Wehmeyer, it is possible to get both COVID-19 and the flu.

“There is a theoretical chance that people will get COVID not just by itself but also flu.”

That's why now is the perfect time to get the flu shot. Everything you can do to be as preventive as possible is strongly encouraged.

Dr. Wehmeyer says the shot is already available in most clinics and you shouldn't wait to get it.So roll up those sleeves and get your flu shot. It could save you a from getting sick.
