Know Recall is reporting that Japan's Takata Corp has filed for bankruptcy protection in the U.S. and in Japan amid the auto industry's biggest product recall ever.
It's shotty airbag inflators have been linked to 17 deaths around the world. With lawsuits and recalls, they're estimated to have liabilities of around $15 billion dollars. Yes, that's billion with a big ol' B. That price could still go higher, as they have yet to finalize a deal with car manufactures for replacement costs.
Takada CEO Shigehisa Takada released a statement saying that he and top management would be resigning, and his family would likely cease to be shareholders.
