Oh look, a documentary about my life!

I mean, yes, technically I am not a superhero. My children cannot turn invisible or breath fire or shoot lasers from their eyes. My wife, however, is a superhero, and pretty much anytime she goes out for work or a night out with friends and I’m left in charge, it looks basically like what you see in this new sneak peek from Incredibles 2, where Mr. Incredible (Craig T. Nelson) is exhausted and haggard and disheveled and he’s just feeding the baby cookies so she doesn’t explode with rage. Reader, watching these scenes I cried, and then I caught myself and forced myself to shut up because the baby is still sleeping and dear lord we cannot wake the baby.

But enough about my rapid descent into madness, how about a plot synopsis?

In “Incredibles 2,” Helen (voice of Holly Hunter) is called on to lead a campaign to bring Supers back, while Bob (voice of Craig T. Nelson) navigates the day-to-day heroics of “normal” life at home with Violet (voice of Sarah Vowell), Dash (voice of Huck Milner) and baby Jack-Jack—whose superpowers are about to be discovered. Their mission is derailed, however, when a new villain emerges with a brilliant and dangerous plot that threatens everything. But the Parrs don’t shy away from a challenge, especially with Frozone (voice of Samuel L. Jackson) by their side. That’s what makes this family so Incredible.

This looks so great (and a clever inversion of the first movie, where Mr. Incredible kept sneaking off, leaving Helen (Holly Hunter) alone with their unruly brood). It’s great to have writer/director Brad Bird back at Pixar, even if this movie will probably tap into all my darkest fears about parenthood. The Incredibles 2 opens in theaters on June 15.
