This Saturday, you've got a golden ticket (golden sun up in the sky not guaranteed) good for free admission to some Central Texas museums thanks to Smithsonian Magazine.

September 22 is the 14th annual Smithsonian Magazine Museum Day. With special tickets available online, you can visit museums across Texas without needing to pay for admission.

You can see a list of participating museums at smithsonianmag.com. Filter by state and town to see which museums are available, then click Get A Ticket.

We played around with the filters and found that the 1st Cavalry Division Museum on Fort Hood, the Bell County Museum in Belton, and the Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum in Temple are participating.

If you want to get out of town this weekend and soak in some culture, play around with the filters yourself and see what's out there.

We want to thank Jonathan Logue with Temple Parks & Recreation for making us aware of this event. He issued the following media release Wednesday afternoon:

The Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum will offer free admission to ticketholders on Saturday, September 22, 2018 as part of Smithsonian Magazine’s 14th Annual Museum Day.

Museum Day represents a nationwide commitment to access, equity and inclusion, emulating the free admission policy of the Smithsonian’s Washington, DC based institutions. Over 250,000 people downloaded tickets for last year’s event, and Museum Day 2018 is expected to attract more museumgoers than ever before. The theme of this year’s Museum Day is Women Making History, honoring women in society who are trailblazers in the arts, sciences, innovation and culture, and emboldening others to be pioneers as well.

Museum Day tickets will be available for download at Smithsonian.com/MuseumDay. Visitors who present a Museum Day ticket will gain free entrance for two at participating venues on September 22, 2018. One ticket is permitted per email address. A list of participating museums can be found online at Smithsonian.com/MuseumDay/Search.

The Temple Railroad & Heritage Museum is located in the Santa Fe Depot at 315 West Avenue B in downtown Temple. The museum is open 10am – 4pm, Tuesday – Saturday. For more information about the Museum please call 254.298.5172 or visitwww.templerrhm.org.
