When you get burned out on Hair Metal, you're gonna find yourself at the other end of the spectrum. And it didn't get much farther away than this.

Blending music and voices always seemed to hit a note with me. I was the oldest so I didn’t have any influences on my music choices, which meant I was an open canvas.

I would relate to either a good beat, or a clever lyric. In 1986, I was getting a little burned out on Hair Metal. So I started listening to different stuff. Artists included New Edition, Ready for the World, but one song really got my ear. It was Force MD’s “Tender Love”.

I found it to be a nice combination of singing/rap with a Motown feel. Plus the girls liked it. I thought that maybe I could make a move or two with this song on the Cassette. But in the end, it’s kind of tough to get some tender love in a Pontiac Phoenix.
