Fixer Uppers Chip & Joanna Help Waco Firefighter

Fixer Uppers lend a helping hand.

KWTX is reporting that HGTV's "Fixer Upper" stars have chipped in to help Waco firefighter Garth Goodwin and his family.

Contractor Wes Waller of UBI Products had teamed up with Waco firefighters to help out one of their own after an injury left Goodwin paralyzed from the chest down. When he heard about Mr. Goodwin's plight, he launched an effort to raise the equipment needed for a handicap accessible home.

Area residents and business were pitching in, and within a few weeks, Waller had almost everything he needed. More than 70 different businesses and contractors offered to help. Even the Baylor softball team promised to clean the house up before the family would move in. (And anytime a college student offers to clean something, you know it's a big deal.)

There was only one obstacle left before the build could begin.

Waller says Chip & Joanna have quietly stepped up and paid for the cost of the lumber of  a house that will be built in Moody. If it all goes right, the Goodwin Family could have a new handicap accessible home by Thanksgiving.
