Early Voting Has Started in Central Texas

Those hoping to beat the lines on Election Day, November 3, found lines and long wait times today as early voting got underway.

Due to COVID-19, Gov. Greg Abbott extended the early voting period by seven days. Most people thought by casting their vote early, they'd avoid the the long lines at voting centers come Election Day. Well, that wasn't the case in a lot of places, as those who went out to vote today found not only long lines and wait times, but other issues as well.

KWTX reports that long lines formed at the Copperas Cove Civic Center, the Bell County Annex in Temple, the Waco Multi-Purpose Community Center, the Killeen Community Center and the Harker Heights Parks & Recreation Center.

Some voters even said that local voting terminals were down, but poll workers said that all terminals were working but that there weren't as many terminals available to ensure proper social distancing.

Lots of people will choose to take advantage of the early voting, but you can also vote on Election Day, November 3rd or you can also vote by mail. According to Vote Texas, the last day to apply for a "Ballot by Mail" is Friday, October 23, 2020 - received, not postmarked.

The last day of in-person early voting is Friday, October 30, 2020.
