KWTX reported that a head-on collision in Belton early Wednesday morning has left two people dead.

The collision took place on I-14 in Belton, and the accident led to Belton Police Department shutting down the Westbound lanes of I-14 between Belton and Nolanville near the Nolanville Hill for several hours.

Belton Police Department got the call around 2:30 a.m. of the accident that occurred, and received reports of a car being on fire on the side of the road near Interstate 14 and FM 534.

Belton authorities said the collision was caused by a driver driving the wrong way and heading eastbound on the westbound side of the interstate.

One of the drivers was pronounced dead at the scene, and the other driver was pronounced dead after being quickly taken to the hospital.

Nolanville, Belton, and Bell County Sheriff crews were at the scene getting the fire extinguisher, and also directing traffic on the interstate.

The interstate closure was from George Wilson to Paddy Hamilton, and Interstate 14 westbound lanes have been reopened now.
