Box Office Battle Between ‘Gone Girl’ and ‘Annabelle’

No surprise to me and Dave, Gone Girl was number one at  the weekend box office.

The Ben Affleck thriller took in $38 million.  What is surprising to me and Dave is the fact that the horror movie Annabelle was such a close second.  Estimates give Annabelle $37.2 million.

Gone Girl is based on the best-selling book by Gillian Flynn. It’s an R rated twisty turning tale of kidnap and murder.

Number two was also rated R, Annabelle, is the prequel to last summer's The Conjuring.  Annabelle only cost  $6.5 million to make so you know the producers are happy with a $37 million plus debut.

Last week's leader The Equalizer, starring Denzel Washington, fell to third with $19 million. The Boxtrolls took fourth with $12.4 million, and The Maze Runner came in fifth with $12 million. The other new release,  Left Behind, starring Nicolas Cage, made $6.9 million for sixth place.
