Best Places to Camp Outside of Texas

With this vacation idea, you'll get some good road trip therapy.  And you'll be socially distanced when you arrive at your destination, so it's a true getaway (from it all).

Road trips are big right now and outdoor destinations will be popular as long as the weather holds.  If you're in the mood for a long road trip that gets you away from stress and routine, these destinations might be just thing.

Travel and Leisure posted the Best Scenic Places to Camp and some of the journeys might take us to places we've never been to before.  East Texas has some great campgrounds, but it might be fun to hit a rare destination rather than one we've been to ten times already.

Acadia National Park, Maine - It's full of lakes, rivers, streams, and trees and the views are breathtaking.  Plus, it would be a heck of a lot cooler there.

White Mountain National Forest, New Hampshire, and Maine - This is a spot for those who really love the outdoors and a rugged hike.  There are hundreds of campsites in all.

Shenandoah National Park, Virginia - This has 500 miles of trails, including an eight-mile hike up Old Rag Mountain.  The views include thick forests and plenty of waterfalls.

Dry Tortugas National Park, Florida - It's right outside some barrier reefs, so it's easy to access to snorkeling.  That's something we don't get in East Texas.  And it's great for bird watching too.

Ozark National Forest, Arkansas - Whether you're in an RV or a tent, you'll be able to use developed campground and access nine beaches, thousands of acres of lakes and streams, and 400 miles of hiking trails.

Badlands National Park, South Dakota - Unique features include rock formations, prairies, and glimpses of ancient fossils. And you might see bison roaming around.  Hopefully, not too close to the tent.

Grand Teton National Park - Wyoming -  I've been to this spot, and the views are the type that never your mind after you visit.  It's gorgeous!  The air is crisp and clean, and it's just majestic.  It's just north of Jackson Hole, you can see the mountains, wildlife, and lakes.  We saw elk, moose, antelope, and even chipmunks.

Gunnison National Forest - Colorado - Besides views of the Rocky Mountains, you'll see open meadows and green forests, and it's right by the lakes.

Most of the parks are still operating at reduced capacity so check before you pack the car, but at least the campsites are open and ready for road trippers.

2020 doesn't have to be a wash.  There's still time to make the most of it.
