Bell County Resident Armed With Handgun Stops Burglary

A Bell County resident armed with a gun took on a burglar who broke into their home Monday evening. It turns out a person arrested in connection to the break-in was also wanted in connection to a shooting at a Harker Heights restaurant back in January.

According to our partners at KWTX-TV, the break-in in the 3800 block of Sillhouse Drive was reported around 6:20 PM Monday. The caller told authorities they was upstairs when they heard what sounded like someone kicking in the front door of their home.

The person grabbed their handgun and went to investigate, and according to the Bell County Sheriff's Department, came face-to-face with a man also armed with a handgun.

Thankfully, no shots needed to be fired. The suspect ran outside and jumped into a vehicle parked outside.

Deputies later stopped that vehicle on FM 2410 in Belton, and four people inside were arrested and charged with burglary of a habitation:.

• Marquis Deon Henderson, 19, of Temple
• Corey Danielle Henderson Jr., 20, of Temple
• Devonne Cortez Palmer Jr., 18, of Harker Heights
• Raven Marquita Singleton, 20, of Temple

Deputies did not find a weapon in the vehicle, but discovered that Marquis Henderson was wanted in connection to a January 22, 2020 shooting at the Bush's Chicken located at  250 Commercial Drive in Harker Heights which left a man injured.

Henderson's jail roster listing includes additional charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, misdemeanor fraud, and failure to identify as a fugitive. His bonds totaled $508,000.00.

According to Bell County Jail records, all four suspects remained in custody early Tuesday afternoon.
