This is the way it should work.

According to KWTX, this past Friday authorities identified the body of a woman found off Interstate 35 as Debra Murdock Ballard, 58, of Ferris.

She was identified by matching her tattoos. The investigation led the authorities to a possible suspect. They issued search warrants Thursday in Ellis County with the assistance of the Texas Rangers.

According to officials with the Hill County Sheriffs's Office, after a search of Ballard's home it became clear that the man she was dating was a person of interest.

Fear of the suspect leaving the state prompted authorites to contact the U.S. Marshal
Service for assistance.

The suspect was pulled over Friday around 1 p.m. in Kaufman County. He stepped out of his car and shot himself in the head. His name has not been released at this time. He was taken to Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas in dire condition, according to Hill County Chief Deputy Rick Wyatt.

Wyatt also conveyed that, although a sad outcome, it was successful...

"As you might expect when you have these kind of situations, if they go unsolved it makes people a little unnerved, especially in rural areas where your nearest neighbor may be half a mile or a mile away," she told KWTX. And so when we can bring closure quickly, it gives them a little big more confidence in their safety in the county."
