The police lieutenant for the Doris Miller VA Medical Center was recently arrested for sexual assault of a child.

KWTX News 10, has reported that  Lt. Darrell C. Sanders, was arrested on November 12, for the sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl. Sanders was released on a $250,000 personal recognizance bond later that day.

The mother of the girl reported to police that an unknown man was in the apartment with her daughter. Officers responded to the scene and knocked on the apartment door. An affidavit states that Sanders was seen coming out of the apartment.

Once authorities entered the apartment they discovered "fresh wet spots" on the bed sheet and $25 on the nightstand. Officials took the girl to the hospital for a  sexual assault forensic exam, and were able to question her about the assault on the ride over.

The girl told officers that she had sex with Sanders once prior, and that he had paid her $90. Sanders has also admitted in an affidavit that he had sex with the girl twice.

The Central Texas Veterans Health Care System is said to have stripped Sanders of his badge and is not allowing him to interact with patients.

According to the DPS Crime in Texas Report, most sexual assaults occurred at a residence or home, the exact number being 73.9%. Females account for 88.1% of victims and most victims range in ages 10-19.
